چکیده

Abstract This paper discusses the meta-ethical implications of Wittgenstein’s later moral philosophy. According to Lovibond and Brandhorst, Wittgenstein provided a novel conception facts, properties objects by adopting deflationism. argues that seamless language together with his non-foundational epistemology non-transcendent understanding rationality involves change perspective towards plausible non-mystificatory realism. Meanwhile, Brandhorst provides deflationist truths from which we obtain facts. argues, on contrary, attribution deflationism does not do justice work. It is concluded, therefore, appeal afford or substantiate exegetical claims made Brandhorst.

Reliabilism and Deflationism

In this article I examine several issues concerning reliabilism and deflationism. I critique Alvin Goldman’s account of the key differences between correspondence and deflationary theories and his claim that reliabilism can be combined only with those truth theories that maintain a commitment to truthmakers. I then consider how reliability could be analysed from a deflationary perspective and s...

Formulating deflationism

I here argue for a particular formulation of truth-deflationism, namely, the propositionally quantified formula, (Q) ”For all p, is true iff p”. The main argument consists of an enumeration of the other (five) possible formulations and criticisms thereof. Notably, Horwich’s Minimal Theory is found objectionable in that it cannot be accepted by finite beings. Other formulations err in not pr...

Beth’s Theorem and Deflationism

In 1999, Jeffrey Ketland published a paper which posed a series of technical problems for deflationary theories of truth. Ketland argued that deflationism is incompatible with standard mathematical formalizations of truth and that alternate deflationary formalizations are unable to explain some central uses of the truth predicate in mathematics. He also used Beth’s definability theorem to argue...

Deflationism, Conservativeness and Maximality

This schema, restricted in some way in order to avoid the paradoxes, is said to capture the whole content of our intuitive notion of truth. In effect truth is called sometimes a “purely logical” device a predicate devoid of content, which doesn’t express any substantial relation between our language and the world. According to one proposal, conservativeness is a good explication of this “conten...

Minimalism, Deflationism, and Paradoxes∗

This paper argues against a broad category of deflationist theories of truth. It does so by asking two seemingly unrelated questions. The first is about the well-known logical and semantic paradoxes: Why is there no strengthened version of Russell’s paradox, as there is a strengthened version of the Liar paradox? Oddly, this question is rarely asked. It does have a fairly standard answer, which...
